If the Los Angeles Clippers are serious about bringing Kevin Garnett and Doc Rivers into their franchise, the price of two additional first-round draft picks is needed to sweeten the deal for the Boston Celtics, according to Yahoo! Sports.
The Celtics have shown that their willing to accept the Clippers offer should it include center DeAndre Jordan and two first-round draft picks, but sources say they were resisting a second future pick.
The teams plan to discuss terms again on Tuesday morning, and their delicate negotiations could crumble over draft pick compensation, sources said.
For the Clippers, Garnett and Rivers can solidify the franchise, which they believe will assure their chances of re-signing free-agent guard Chris Paul.
Boston has dropped their pursuit of Eric Bledsoe, but want two draft picks as compensation for Rivers, according to sources.
Rivers currently has three years and $21 million left on his contract with the Celtics, but doesn't want to stay in Boston if the franchise is not looking to bring back Garnett or Paul Pierce in order to avoid rebuilding for another year.
Rivers has been among the most respected and well-liked coaches in the NBA for many years now. On more than one occasion he stated that he would consider taking a sabbatical from coaching in order to recharge as well as spend more time with his family.
