NFL Rumors: David Beckham Had Offer In League As Kicker When L.A. Galaxy Retirement Neared, Soccer Star To Be Ambassador For London Team?

The NFL can be an interesting animal sometimes when it comes to kickers, as one team in the Lions brought in a player due to a YouTube video he made and another reports has come out saying that soccer superstar David Beckham may have had the opportunity to kick in the league.

According to Pro Football Talk, the Daily Mirror reports that Beckham had offers to be a kicker for an NFL team (or to at least try out) as his career with the LA Galaxy came to a close earlier in the year. The report says that it came before he decided to join Paris Saint-Germain and that scouts contacted him about his interest in doing it.

While Beckham is a star in soccer, the NFL uses a different style of kicking, but that likely would not have stopped one of the best players in the world from being successful. Kickers in the NFL have come from various professions and previous punters came from Australian Rules Football. Beckham would have had a Tebow-like following had that actually happened and maybe one day in the future the NFL could use him as an ambassador of sorts for the NFL team they hope to put there.

Beckham previously visited NFL teams in the past and also starred in a commercial with some players. He spent time with the Saints for the commercial and even donned a uniform.

The newspaper said: "Their idea is not as ridiculous as it sounds because Beckham's skill at bending in long range free kicks can be perfectly adapted to scoring field goals in the NFL."
