Joe Torre and his family have deep roots in New York and that is why the story of his daughter saving a falling child from falling off an awning is so inspiring and amazing.

According to the Daily News, Cristina Torre was in Bay Ridge in Brooklyn when she was walking out from Little Cupcake Bake Shop on Third Ave. and spotted a child dangling from an awning over a store in the morning. She quickly saw the child and ran over, saying that she was him balancing on the railing. She called out to the baby and tried to get him to stay there and as someone else called the police she waited under the fire escape awning.

She said the baby landed right in her arms and his only injury was a small cut on the mouth and she added later that her father taught her how to catch. Bystanders hugged her for helping and later on the parents of the child were taken into custody by police, as Tiffany Demitro, 24, and Sam Miller, 23, as the baby and three other siblings were running around the house. Police said it was a health hazard since there was no bedding for the kids and no food.

Police said another child had tried to step out of the same area and the two parents were charged with reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child. Torre splits time in Scotland and Brooklyn and said she felt lucky that she was there in time.
