Jeremy Lin underwent successful surgery Monday on his injured left knee. The point guard had the operation to repair a torn meniscus.
Knicks head coach Mike Woodson said he spoke to Lin, and hopes he will return "fairly quickly." Lin will miss approximately six weeks, but the Knicks would like to get him back sooner.
If Lin is out for the approximate timetable, New York will have to make it to the second round of the playoffs in order for him to return this season.
Lin let everyone know that surgery was a success throughTwitter.
"Praise God for a successful surgery...road to recovery! Lets goo. Much love to the fans for your support and kind words," he tweeted. "Thanks to Dr. Answorth Allen, Dr. Lisa Callahan and all the nurses for a great surgery."
He also tweeted a picture of himself in the hospital.
According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, Knicks center Tyson Chandler said Lin was "a little drugged up" after the operation and started sending "drunken texts" to his teammates.
Chandler said, "I didn't fall victim to that. I'll reach out today when he should be a little more sober."
After his surgery, Lin answered some questions from his fans on Facebook.
One person asked Lin if he would be back for the playoffs.
"I hope ill be back for the playoffs!" he responded. "Its killin me to watch the team without being able to play but i need to make sure my knee is 100% before i get back on the court so we will wait and see."
The Knicks take the court again Tuesday night in Indiana. It will be New York's fifth straight game without their starting point guard.
Baron Davis will take over as the Knicks starter in Lin's absence.
