Downtown Calgary is dealing with some flooding issues and the emergency may force up to 100,000 people to relocate from their homes and the weather event also nabbed the Flames NHL arena, the Scotiabank Saddledome.
According to Twitter from @Eric Francis, water has made its way into the arena and destroyed a host of equipment, as well as the jumbotron and other pieces of team equipment. The locker room is under water and so are the dressing rooms and up the 10th row in the arena.
From the Associated Press: As many as 100,000 residents of Calgary, Canada, could face evacuation because of flooding, CNN affiliate CTV reported Thursday night.
Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for six communities along the Elbow River, CTV said. Parts of of southern Alberta face rising floodwaters and the possibility of more rain.
Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper issued a statement, saying military assets including helicopters have been deployed to assist local emergency personnel with rescue and evacuation efforts.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with those families who have been affected by the serious flooding in Calgary and Southern Alberta," Harper said, adding that "any and all possible assistance" would be provided by the federal government.
