Liverpool Manager Brendan Rodgers Not Worried About Luis Suarez Situation, Believes Striker Will Stay Despite Interest from Real Madrid

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insisted the club are in "complete control of the situation" over deciding whether to sell or keep Luis Suarez at Anfield this summer.

Suarez has expressed his wish to leave Liverpool in the summer due to the way he has been treated in England, but the Reds are keen to keep their premier forward at the club, and have publicly stated the player is not for sale.

The 26-year-old is tied to a long-term contract, and reports suggest Liverpool will consider selling Suarez only if they receive a bid in excess of £50 million ($77 million).

"It's quite simple, the club is in complete control of the situation," Rodgers told Talksport when asked about Suarez.

"I will always listen to players. I always work closely with players and always listen to their point of view but the biggest word is with the club.

"We're in a situation where we've got a player who we don't want to lose. We're trying to build something here and he's a very important part of that and because of the type of player he is, he will always give his best."

Suarez has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid, and the striker, who scored a brace against Tahiti in the Confederations Cup on Sunday, has admitted he would find it difficult to turn down a move to the Spanish giants.

The former Ajax player, though, has also expressed his love for Liverpool and Rodgers believes that could be key to keeping him at Anfield beyond the summer.

"Sometimes interviews get put out there and highlighted but parts of Luis' interviews have been about how much he loves Liverpool, but of course that doesn't get highlighted," Rodgers added.

"It's something that happens. I'm quite relaxed about it.

"What I know is that the support Luis has had from the people here in Liverpool, the city and the football club, has been phenomenal and I know he feels that and respects that."
