The Miami Heat are NBA champions for the second straight season and after LeBron James powered his team to a Game 7 victory and another finals MVP award, head coach Erik Spoelstra received a call from the most powerful man in the world, as President Barack Obama called to congratulate him on the victory.
According to ESPN.com, the White House said that President Obama called Spoelstra after the Heat won Game 7 of the NBA finals for their second championship in as many seasons. The office said that the President called on the Friday following the game in the afternoon and spoke to the coach about the "relentless determination" as the team won. He also mentioned that it was a historic season after the second title as well as the two regular season and finals MVPs for LeBron James.
The Heat previously visited the White House after winning the championship last season and he mentioned on the phone that he will have them again as guests after taking the finals for the second straight year. The championship was the third for Miami and saw LeBron James win his second straight MVP award after averaging nearly a triple double in the series. James scored 37 points in the Game 7 win to tie the all-time record as the Heat won 95-88 over the San Antonio Spurs.
