As expected, Roger Federer earned passage past the first round at Wimbledon to advance to the second round of the Grand Slam tournament . He breezed through three straight sets against Victor Hanescu 6-3, 6-2, 6-0 and will now get ready for his matchup against Sergiy Stakhovsky.
Throughout his career, Federer has never had trouble getting past Hanescu, who hails from Romania. They last met at Indian Wells and needed three sets as Federer dropped a set. However, at Wimbledon, Federer was dominant, remaining undefeated as he improved his record to 6-0 against the Romanian.
Federer finished the match with seven aces and played an extremely clean game, committing only six unforced errors. Federer may be nearing 32 years of age, but he's far from slowing down as his fastest serve was clocked at 125 miles per hour, matching the more taller Hanescu's top speed.
Awaiting Federer is the Ukrainian Stakhovsky. Like Federer, Stakhovsky cruised in the first round as he defeated Rogerio Dutra Silva of Brazil in three straight sets 6-4, 6-0, 6-4 to advance to the second round.
Who holds the edge in this second round battle?
Federer, but barely because the two have only crossed paths once before. It was 2011 at Dubai when Federer got rid of Stakhovsky in straight sets 6-4,6-3 in the quarterfinals.
Stakhovsky is currently ranked 116th in Men's Singles ranking.
