The Miami Heat are NBA Champions for the second time in a row and for the second year in a row, the owner of Story Nightclub picked up the tab for the team celebration following the Game 7 victory, comping the team $100,000 in alcohol.
According to ESPN.com, David Grutman, who owns Story Nightclub, treated the Heat to a party for the second year in a row and it also marks the third year in a row he has hosted the champs, as the Dallas Mavericks also were there after winning over the year the first time they made it to the finals during this run. The team partied at the club and at LIV last year, and the owner is the same at both clubs. The report says that the players had 100 bottles of Dom Perignon and three 3-liter bottles of champagne as well as bottles for $5,000 each.
The Dallas Mavericks had to pay for their alcohol according to the report, as Mavs owner Mark Cuban paid for the bill on his credit card, including a $90,000 15-liter bottle of Armand de Brignac champagne. He also left a 22 percent tip after the 2011 finals. Grutman said he liked having the team celebrate at the club and that they would be welcomed back if they won again.
"We were in the back because his credit card was denied," Grutman recalled. "So he called up the people at the Centurion Card and said, 'This is Mark Cuban. We just won the championship. Can I please spend some money?'"
"I'm not going to charge the Heat," Grutman said of the $100,000 value of comped alcohol.
