NBA Report: Denver Nuggets Hire Brian Shaw As Next Head Coach

Brian Shaw's journey for a head coaching opportunity has finally come to an end as the Denver Nuggets have reportedly reached an agreement with the longtime assistant to take over and man their bench, according to the Denver Post.

After firing George Karl, the Nuggets soon after zeroed in on Shaw, an Indiana Pacers assistant. On Monday they hired the longtime NBA player and assistant coach who had interviewed for several head coaching jobs in recent years.

"I can't express my appreciation enough," the 47-year-old Shaw said. "It's been a grind, to say the least, but I'm just very appreciative of the opportunity to lead this team. ... It's been years, 11 or 12 interviews I've gone through. And I've felt I've been prepared by the best of the best.

"You know, everything that's worth something, a lot of times you have to wait for it. I feel like I've waited and paid my dues. I feel honored and privileged that (Nuggets executives) Josh (Kroenke) and Tim (Connelly) have put faith in me that I'm the guy they want to grow with going forward."

Shaw spent the past two seasons under Indiana's Frank Vogel and says despite having learned the Triangle Offense while playing and coaching under Phil Jackson in Los Angeles with the Lakers, he will instead with the Nuggets he'll focus on their ability to push the pace.

The Nuggets have scheduled a press conference this afternoon to introduce their new head coach.
