Tim Tebow is now at home in New England with the Patriots and with the Aaron Hernandez case growing more and more by the day, his attention by the media has taken a back seat to the tight end and he can now concentrate on just playing football.
Tebow is a controversial figure to many in the NFL for the way he plays and his Christian beliefs and many felt that those were part of the reason why he couldn't find a job in the NFL after being released by the Jets. The team traded for him with great fanfare, but that changed after they completely messed up using him for the entire season. Many felt he was blackballed in the NFL and one former politician agrees with that assessment.
According to Gofbw.com, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee spoke to the Southern Baptist Pastors' Conference June 10 in Texas and mentioned Tebow and his religious beliefs. He compared Tebow and his Christian values to Jason Collins, the NBA player who came out as a homosexual. Huckabee said that it was wrong to see how Collins was looked at as a hero for coming out with his "sexual proclivities", while Tebow was told to "shut up" about his love of Jesus and religion.
Huckabee said that it should be concerning that as a culture that it was heroic to announce what Collins did and that when Tebow says that he loves Jesus Christ, he is asked to be quiet about it. Tebow has never been shy about his religious beliefs and now there is a rule in college that says players can't write on their eye black after Tebow did it with Bible verses during his days at Florida.
Tebow was a polarizing figure when he came into the NFL and that hasn't changed since he signed with the Patriots. Many speculate that he will be used as a tight end while dealing with the Aaron Hernandez murder case, but so far the team has not went down that road. He currently is behind Ryan Mallett and Tom Brady on the depth chart and depending on what happens in training camp, he could move into the backup role, but that is unlikely. Tebow also made popular the act of "Tebowing", which is him praying on one knee on the field.
