Philadelphia Eagles Rumors: Michael Vick, Chip Kelly Not Feuding Says Quarterback Despite Negative Comments Towards Nick Foles Competition

Jun 25, 2013 04:38 PM EDT

Michael Vick is not exactly thrilled that he has yet to be officially named the starting quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. After signing a contract extension with the team, he was expecting to be in full control of the offense. Instead, head coach Chip Kelly stepped in and has the veteran competing with Nick Foles for the starting spot. Despite being vocal about his displeasure with the competition, Vick is squashing the idea that there is a feud brewing between the two.

Vick recently made headlines for admitting that it was tough splitting reps with the first team offense and he was ready for Kelly to name a starting quarterback so that the team could start to move towards the 2013 season. He told reporters he would no longer be answering any questions about the quarterback contest, forcing people to believe there was some tension between him and the head coach. Vick promises that is not true.

"I was very surprised because I didn't try to say it in a derogatory way where I felt like coach should make a decision or there's pressure on him to make a decision. I was just asked a question and I answered it the best way that I could. But coach is totally involved in our team and what we've got going on and what needs to be done. Like I said, we're all going to sit back and make sure that we do exactly what he asks us to do, regardless of who's out there one the field," Vick said to PhillyMag.com.

Despite being a first year coach, Vick says Kelly already has the full attention of Eagles' team. He has been intentional about making sure every player gets time with the first and second team offense, no matter how long they have been with the team. DeSean Jackson recently commented how Kelly had him playing with the second team offense. Vick is happy the coach is so straight forward making these competition headlines easy to end.

"Coach is just so straightforward. After the first four or five words, you already understand and know where he's coming from. So we talked the next day, and I send him a text and he called me back and we talked and that was it," Vick said. "Like I said, everybody on that football team respects coach Kelly and likes what he's been able to accomplish so far."

Kelly seems to get a passing grade through his first few months as an NFL coach. He making sure everyone knows who the man in charge is with the Eagles and the players are responding.
