Aaron Hernandez Charged With Murder In Odin Lloyd Case and Pleads Not Guilty, Patriots TE Faces Six Charges As Bail Requested In Court

Jun 26, 2013 02:44 PM EDT

New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was arrested by authorities on Wednesday morning for his involvement in the murder of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd and he was arraigned at 2 PM in the Attleboro Court and was charged with a count of murder among other charges.

Hernandez had been previously waiting to see what would happen with the case, as the authorities had moved slowly and reports were conflicting about the possible arrest warrant. Clearly the authorities decided to execute it and they didn't give Hernandez any special treatment, as they came and arrested him at home rather than work out a deal for him to turn himself in. Hernandez was on his way to the court soon after being taken to the police station.

Hernandez is not considered a suspect in the murder yet, but the charges show that the authorities are trying to figure out exactly what has happened in the case. Lloyd's body was found last week a mile from Hernandez's home and a rental car of his was found nearby. Police have said that the case appears drug related and that Lloyd was shot multiple times and that the body was not moved after it was killed.

Hernandez is connected to the case through his girlfriend, as she has a sister who is dating Lloyd and after being arrested he was released by the Patriots. The team could go after his signing bonus and guaranteed money and his NFL future is up in the air and he could face a suspension or a fine depending on how it goes. Hernandez was brought in wearing a shirt and shorts with sneakers and it appeared that he wasn't quite ready to get arrested.

The media has been going at the case like crazy and police searched his home as well as a wooded area and pond nearby and brought out bags of evidence. Hernandez could be in hot water for destroying his cell phone and home security system and he also had a cleaning crew come on Monday to work on the house. The case has brought up questions about his checkered past and many NFL teams have said that they were worried about his background. The police brought dogs to the home and as of now the evidence that the police have is unclear now.

The case also could widen and reports say that Hernandez was seen with Lloyd on the night of the murder. Hernandez just signed a lucrative extension with the team and now his time with the Patriots is over and the team said it was the right move to make, as Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick spoke about it and said that they would release him if he was released. This could be compared to some NFL cases with Ray Lewis and Rae Carruth, but the Hernandez involvement still has time to come together.
