The Los Angeles Lakers announced Wednesday that they wouldn't resign forward Devin Ebanks or guard Chris Duhon in the 2013-14 season.
Ebanks arrived on the Lakers after being drafted in the 2010 NBA Draft out of West Virginia. The promising forward saw his minutes dwindle after a series of off the court incidents, including being busted for a DUI.
Unfortunately for Ebanks that may have led to him seeing the bench for 63 regular season games and all four postseason games against the San Antonio Spurs.
Ebanks can still be a solid pickup for a team, and his stay in free agency may be short lived.
Duhon not being retained comes as no surprise with his contract being non-guaranteed. He was the Lakers third option at point guard, but with injuries to Steve Nash and Steve Blake, he saw more playing time then he originally anticipated.
With Ebanks and Duhon out the picture for next season, the team has decided to exercise the contract option on Jodie Meeks for $1.55 million and extended a qualifying offer to backup center Robert Sacre for $988,872 making him a restricted free agent.
With the fate of those players determined, the attention now will be focused on center Dwight Howard. Howard has still yet to give any indication to the team of what his plans are, but has let it known that he intends on testing free agency as of July 1.
