Confederations Cup Final: Stylish Brazil Overwhelm World Champions Spain at the Maracana

Brazil showed just why they are contenders for the 2014 World Cup next year, by putting in a masterclass against the best side in the world - Spain - to clinch the Confederations Cup in some style.

Roused by a stirring capacity crowd at the Maracana, Brazil flew off the blocks scoring an early goal to set the tone for the rest of the game.

A double from Fred and one from the ever-impressive Neymar was enough to give Brazil a 3-0 win over a shell-shocked Spain, who missed a penalty as well as having Gerard Pique sent off in the second half.

However, nothing can take away from Brazil's performance, with the home side scoring all three goals before the penalty miss or the red card, with the first strike coming with just 95 seconds on the clock.

A cross to the back post bounced off Neymar, with Fred, on the floor, alert to the situation to thump it into the back of the net.

The pace of Brazil's attacks was furious from the off, and they nearly doubled their lead, but Oscar fired wide after a nice lay off from Fred.

Paulinho then forced a decent save from Iker Casillas, before Spain, who had a decent penalty shout, threatened Brazil's goal with Andres Iniesta forcing a good save from Julio Cesar.

Fred, though, was looking dangerous at the other end and nearly got his second goal, after latching onto a pass from Neymar, only for Casillas to deny the forward.

Pedro thought he had scored the equalizer for Spain, but David Luiz made a brilliant last-ditch clearance off the line, before Brazil deservedly went 2-0 up.

Oscar played in Neymar, who, with the form that he is in, made absolutely no mistake smashing the ball into the back of the net with aplomb in the 44th minute.

The score was 3-0 just two minutes into the second half, with Fred latching onto a pass from Hulk, off a dummy from Neymar, before coolly slotting into the net.

Jesus Navas was sent on by Vicente Del Bosque and the winger made an immediate impact, winning a penalty off a trip by Marcelo. However, Sergio Ramos failed to reduce the deficit, firing his spotkick wide.

Brazil kept looking dangerous going forward and the win was as good as sealed when Pique brought down his new Barcelona teammate Neymar down with the referee showing a straight a red card after deeming the defender to be the last man.

Spain kept probing in the final minutes, however, looking for at least a consolation goal, but Cesar was not to be denied a clean sheet either as the goalkeeper kept out two brilliant efforts from Pedro and David Villa to cap off a stunning night for Brazil.
