Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez is behind bars for the murder of Odin Lloyd and despite that one of his teammates came out to defend him in some way, as wideout Deion Branch said that the tight end was a great teammate and friend and that he hopes justice comes to whoever did the crime.
According to ESPN.com, Branch made the comments to the Branch told The Albany (Ga.) Herald in a story published Saturday, saying he loved him to death and that it was a shock to hear him tied to the situation at all. The two were teammates in 2010 when Hernandez was a rookie, with Branch and least season he played in 10 games, catching 16 passes. Branch sent his condolences and said that he hoped justice was brought on whoever did the crime.
Hernandez is facing life in prison for the charges and he has also come under investigation for a double murder that occurred in Boston last July that resulted in the deaths of two men that is still currently unsolved. Hernandez pleaded not guilty to the charges he is facing and this news about branch comes after Matt Light came out and ripped Hernandez, saying that he never believed in the tight end.
Hernandez and Lloyd knew each other for two years according to the Boston Globe and they originally met through their girlfriend's, as Hernandez's fiancé's sister was dating Lloyd at the time of his death. Lloyd's body was found less than a mile from Hernandez's mansion home in North Attleboro and now the house that he shares with his girlfriend and newborn child is empty.
"That's my guy, man," he added of Hernandez. "That's my guy. It really shocked me. He was a great kid. Overall, I hope the best that he isn't involved with it and I hope he gets his name cleared, but most importantly I send my prayers and condolences out to the Lloyd family."
"Nobody deserves to walk, whoever the person is that did it," Branch said. "Most of all what we as Americans need to understand is that is somebody's child that was a victim. That's somebody's dad, and my prayers and thoughts go out to his family and hope that they bring whoever did this to their child to justice, regardless of who it is."
