Sheriff Denies Aaron Hernandez's Request To Marry Girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins While Incarcerated

Former New England Patriots tight end, Aaron Hernandez, was denied the opportunity to marry his high school sweetheart and mother of his 7-month old daughter, Shayanna Jenkins, by Sheriff Thomas M. Hodgson, according to USA Today Sports.

"I don't subscribe to that. I feel that those rights are things that you access on the outside, if you're a good citizen," Hodgson said. "We'll do everything we can to not have that happen."

Hernandez is currently being held without bail after pleading not guilty last week to first-degree charges in connection to the execution-style shooting death of Odin Lloyd. Hernandez has been held at Bristol County jail since June 26, the day he was led from his North Attleborough, Mass., home in handcuffs. On June 27 a Bristol County Superior Court judge upheld the decision that he be held without bail.

Last week prosecutors began their initial case against Hernandez, and that Jenkins has already begun speaking to investigators until receiving a phone call from Hernandez telling her to keep quiet. If the couple were allowed to wed, Jenkins would then be shielded from testifying against Hernandez at trial, thus putting a damper on the prosecution's case.

At both arraignments, Hernandez's defense team argued their client needed to be treated like any other defendant despite his status as a popular football celebrity.
