Verdasco is unseeded in the tournament and is 54th in the ATP rankings. Prior to 2012, Verdasco had never made a quarterfinal appearance at Wimbledon. His most successful run in a grand slam tournament came in 2009 at the Australian Open.
Though Verdasco isn't the favorite in his matchup, he has the chance to continue a trend at 2013 Wimbledon. There have been multiple upsets in this tournament beginning with Rafael Nadal's first round exit. Since then, there have been huge disappointments along the way. No upset was bigger than the second round where Roger Federer, Maria Sharapova and Victoria Azarenka were all eliminated on the same day. The question had to be asked, with all of these stars eliminated, would anybody follow the tournament?
Murray has a chance to bring up the Wimbledon ratings if he can advance to the finals. He is now through the halfway point of the tournament having won four of the seven matches necessary to be crowned champion. Murray has yet to drop a set, but the key is to win, no matter what it takes.
