NBA Trade News And Rumors: Kings Move Tyreke Evans To New Orleans In A Three-Team Trade Deal

Jul 05, 2013 10:00 AM EDT

The New Orleans Pelicans will have another scorer on their roster in Tyreke Evans after making a three-team trade with the Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers.

The trade will send Evans to the Pelicans via sign-and-trade, with the Kings receiving guard Greivis Vasquez from the Pelicans and Portland will acquire New Orleans center Robin Lopez.

Evans averaged 15.2 points per game, 4.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game last season as the Kings went on to have losing record that stood at 28-54.

Since draft-day the Pelicans have been pursuing trades all week while putting together the finishing touches on a four-year, $44 million offer sheet to Evans. Evans was became New Orleans top priority in free agency and were sold on him, sources said, when Evans told team officials he'd be willing to come off the bench if necessary.

With his sacrifice the Pelicans are able to go into the season with a three-man backcourt rotation with Evans, Jrue Holiday and Eric Gordon and are now in no rush to trade Gordon, whose future with the franchise has been a topic of debate since the previous summer. That's when Gordon signed an offer sheet of his own with Phoenix and publicly urged the Pelicans to let him go to join the Suns.

The Pelicans also receive Blazers second-round draft pick Jeff Withey, a center out of Kansas, in the deal.
