With tyre issues overshadowing the British Grand Prix, the Formula One drivers will be hoping for a bit more of an incident-free race in the German GP over the weekend.

The winner of last week's race at Silverstone - Nico Rosberg - is again confident of pulling off a good qualifying position, after Mercedes took the top two positions in the British GP.

"It was a good day today (Friday) and an interesting one due to the fact that we've tried new tyres," Rosberg told Formula One's official website after the Friday practise session. "That meant that we looked at a different set-up and, from what we've experienced today, what we have put on the car works pretty well.

"At least it showed that we are quick again on a single lap -- and that is promising for qualifying. A bit of a question mark is the fact that it is very likely going to be warmer on Sunday, so we have to see how this affects our performance. But for now -- fingers crossed -- we are on a good go."

Meanwhile, driver's championship leader and world champion Sebastian Vettel is confident Red Bull can create quite an impression in his home GP at Nurburgring.

"It would be very nice (to win) and it is in our own hands to achieve this," he said. "We are very confident that we could win here, but we shall not underestimate our competitors.

"We are not putting ourselves under too much pressure though, as there is no way of forcing a win here or indeed anywhere else. I have been fortunate to have won here in Germany at some other races, when I was still in some junior series."

Vettel is also expecting another battle with compatriot Rosberg. "For sure, as his results have been very consistent," Vettel added. "I think that Mercedes are extremely strong this year, especially in qualifying, but as I said before Silverstone, we expect them to be very strong in the race too.

"Also you get better from race to race, so we do expect them to improve their tyre management even more."
