The Atlanta Braves are attempting to avoid their worst losing streak of the season. The NL-East leading team has lost three games in a row and will look to avoid a fourth loss facing the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night. The Braves gave starting pitcher Tim Hudson an extra day of rest in hopes that he can break the slide.
The right-hander was suffering from a stiff neck and frankly needed the rest. In his most recent start, Hudson stretched his winless streak reached 10. The run support has been lacking for the pitcher. In nine outings, he got a total of 10 runs. That is not helping the pitcher or the team.
His struggles on the road are even worse, going 1-7 with a 5.71 ERA. However, his success with the Phillies has been strong. On Opening Day, Hudson only gave up three runs in 4 1/3 innings in the win. He has also gone at least seven innings in two of his three starts in Philadelphia, allowing zero earned runs in both.
The Phillies are certainly hoping the streak continues. They can begin to make a run in the NL East if the Braves continue to fall. Kyle Kendrick will take the mound going 7-5 on the season with a 3/59 ERA. Ryan Howard is hoping to feast off Hudson. He hit his 11th home run on Friday and is currently tied for the second-most hits against Hudson. He is 22 for 67 in his career against the starting pitcher.
