With Dwight Howard shifting gears to Houston, the Los Angeles Lakers are left with the task of filling the void in the paint as they now lack a suitable big man. Several names have been tossed around but the most recent is veteran center and former L.A. Clipper, Chris Kaman.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports, both the Lakers and Kaman have expressed a mutual interest in each other and a deal could be in the works.
There are other teams that may be vying for Kaman's services besides Los Angeles, including the Golden State Warriors, Atlanta Hawks, Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks.
Kaman, who played for the Dallas Mavericks last season, averaged 10.5 points and 5.6 rebounds in 20 minutes per game.
Another name that the Lakers reportedly have interest in is free agent Elton Brand.
Brand can prove useful for the Lakers despite appearing as a less than attractive option. If he fits their financial obligations he could be a very useful pickup.
However, Brand is also being pursued by the Knicks, who are also in dire need for another big man off the bench, and according to the New York Post, have been considering the possibility of coming up with a deal.
"If this happens, this would be amazing,'' longtime Peekskill High coach Lou Panzanaro told The Post. "He always indicated he would love to finish his career in New York, his last contract, in the twilight of his career. You never know how things are going to go. His mother [Daisy] hoped the same thing. Early in his career, she didn't want him here because of the distractions. Chicago and L.A. were fine.''
