EPL Transfer News: American International Jozy Altidore Completes Switch to Sunderland

Sunderland have completed their sixth summer signing after wrapping up the capture of the American international Jozy Altidore from AZ Alkmaar.

Altidore moves to the Stadium of Light after Sunderland agreed an undisclosed fee with AZ, with the 23-year-old putting pen to paper on a four-year contract.

"I'm thrilled to be here," he said. "It's a fantastic club, I'm really excited about this season and I'm excited to be a part of it."

Altidore had a good couple of seasons with AZ Alkmaar, scoring 38 goals in 67 appearances for the Dutch club, after making his move from Spanish side Villarreal a couple of seasons ago.

The American, though, will want to do better than his last spell in England, where he was a part of the Wolves side that were relegated in 2009/10 with the forward scoring just once in 28 games.

Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio has already added Valentin Roberge, Cabral, Modibo Diakite, former Arsenal goalkeeper Vito Mannone and youngster David Moberg Karlsson to his squad, but will have particularly high hopes for Altidore.

Meanwhile, Midfielder Sebastian Larsson said he has been impressed by the manner in which 19-year-old summer signing Karlsson has settled in at his new club.

"He has settled in really well, like all the new boys have," Larsson said of his compatriot.

"I've spoken a bit to him and I think he's been pleasantly surprised. He came to me and said the group was really nice.

"I asked him if he expected anything else. We're gelling as a group and all the new lads have settled in well. That's another important thing in preseason.

"He's come in with a great attitude and is ready to work hard and fight for what he feels is a great opportunity. He is ready to do what it takes to succeed."
