The 2013 All-Star Final Vote is finally in and the results show that first baseman Freddie Freeman of the Atlanta Braves and Toronto Blue Jays' reliever Steve Delabar will be on their way to New York for the 2013 MLB All-Star Game. Both guys are first timers and have deserved the trip to Citi Field after putting up great numbers before the break.
It took a record 79.2 million fans to decide the winner and, in the end, they chose Freeman's .308 batting average, nine home runs and 56 RBI and Delabar's 1.74 ERA and 5-1 record.
Freeman beat out the red hot Yasiel Puig. In less than 40 games, Puig took the baseball world by storm. He's batting .394 with eight home runs and 19 RBI, sparking the Los Angeles Dodgers' season as the team is now just 1.5 games from first place in the N.L. West. Freeman also beat out Puig's teammate, Adrian Gonzalez, who led the ballot with 58 RBI; Hunter Pence, who led the ballot with 13 stolen bases; and Ian Desmond who led the ballot with 15 home runs. Freeman received a total of 19.6 million votes as the Braves' first baseman broke the Final Vote record.
As for Delabar, he beat out Yankees' reliever David Robertson, Joaquin Benoit, Tenner Scheppers and Koji Uehara. Delabar has been a strikeout machine for the Blue Jays. He's recorded 57 strikeouts through 41.1 innings pitched for a 12.4 K/9 ratio.
Freeman is extremely familiar with Citi Field as the New York Mets and Braves are division rivals. In his career at the stadium, Freeman is hitting .271 with three home runs and 16 RBI. He will be joining fellow teammate, Craig Kimbrel as the only Braves in the 2013 All-Star Game. Delabar has never pitched in Citi Field.
