It is no secret that Michael Vick and the Philadelphia Eagles struggled last season. The quarterback has had an issue staying healthy. He did not look like his normal self at any point during the year. Many can contribute that to a lack of an offensive line, but the struggle has cause the Eagles to consider other options. As Vick continues in a completion with backup Nick Foles and maybe rookie Matt Barkley, the veteran feels no resentment to the fact that the team is considering all options.
In an interview with Sirius XM NFL Radio, Vick said he has accepted the state of affairs with the Eagles. He understands that with a new coach come new styles of play and new ways of doing things. All he can do is adapt and be a better quarterback.
"I have no resentment, no disappointment within myself as far as what the situation is right now because the truth of the matter is you gotta compete every day," Vick said. "You gotta compete on Sundays. You gotta compete off the field, you gotta compete on the field. And I understand that and that's fun part about the game we play. If it was easy then it wouldn't be fun."
Vick has noted that he is tired of answering questions dealing with the quarterback competition. He is anxious for head coach Chip Kelly to select who the starter will be so everyone can move on and truly prepare for the season ahead. As of now, Kelly has been giving all quarterbacks equal time with the first team offense so that everyone can be seen equally. He believes it would be unfair to name a starter this early.
Reports out of Philly are that Foles is ahead of Vick after offseason workouts. That could all be pure speculation, but beat reporters noted Vicks accuracy was not on point and Foles appeared to have the better handle on the offense. It is only July so both quarterbacks are not expected to look exceptionally well, but many noted that Foles looked more prepared.
Time will tell who comes out on top. Kelly could easily wait until the week before the first game to name a starter like he did in college. Vick is hoping a decision comes sooner, but is content to ride things out.
