Steve Smith received a three year extension from the Carolina Panthers which may keep him in a Panthers uniform for the rest of his career.
The 33 year old wide receiver will receive $18 million in guaranteed money, according to the Associated Press. In addition, the team has an option for a fourth year.
"I told Marty I would be the best Panther player ever to put on a uniform," Smith said in a press conference to announce the contract extension.
Smith has been one of the most prolific wide receivers in the NFL since breaking on the scene in 2001. Drafted in the third round out of Utah by the Panthers, the 11-year veteran is already the 32nd all-time receiver in NFL history in receiving yards.
Although Smith is getting older, his production has kept pace, including catching 79 passes for 1,394 yards and 7 touchdowns last season.
Now, the team and young quarterback star Cam Newton, will have its veteran receiving threat for years to come.
