The Cleveland Cavaliers have made some solid moves this summer after signing Andrew Bynum and taking Anthony Bennett with the number one pick and now the team is getting some good news from the summer league, as Dion Waiters broke out of a slump and had an excellent game with 7-of-10 from the field for 15 points in just the first half.
Waiters added 27 points on the night and now the Cavs may also be looking to add more talent, as Mike Miller is now a free agent and could be an option for the team. The Heat used the amnesty clause on him and now he could join as another shooter to add on the bench behind Kyrie Irving.
More summer notes:
The Las Vegas league has a number of teams, including the Blazers, Bobcats, Bucks, Bulls, Cavaliers, Clippers, Grizzlies, Hawks, Heat, Kings, Knicks, Lakers, Mavericks, Nuggets, Pelicans, Raptors, Spurs, Suns, Timberwolves, Warriors and Wizards. Some of the top picks in the draft will be in attendance and they will be some of the top players to watch in the league, including Otto Porter, Ben McLemore, Cody Zeller, Shabazz Muhammad as well as CJ McCollum.
Porter was the number three pick in the draft and last season the Wizards had success with Bradley Beal in the league, as he averaged 17.6 points and 4.6 rebounds in five games before showing that he could be a solid pro. This season the Wizards will do it again and he will be joined by Zeller, who the Bobcats are hoping can prove he can start right away in the league. McLemore is one of the most exciting picks from the draft and along with McCollum he will get plenty of work in the league.
The Lakers have a number of issues to deal with over the summer and after adding free agent Chris Kaman as well as center Robert Sacre, they will look for some other areas where they can add depth before finalizing their roster. Lakers assistant coach Dan D'Antoni will be the head coach of the summer league team and the roster will have 18 players, including Robert Sacre and rookie forward Ryan Kelly, although he likely won't be playing due to the foot injury he had in college.
Kings rookie Ben McLemore has been solid in summer league play, but over the past week he has struggled mightily with his shot, going 4-of-12 in his last game, which came after another rough outing against the Mavericks that saw him go 4-for-23. The Warriors forced him to go left when he wanted to go right mostly and that opened up some weaknesses in his game, as he was forced to shoot more than he would have liked.
