Tiger Woods is entering the final round of the British Open Championships in Scotland sitting two strokes behind leader Lee Westwood and to end his streak of 20 majors without a championship win, the number one golfer in the world will need to do something he has never done, come from behind after 54 holes to win a major championship.
Woods played very well throughout the tournament and after shooting two under par on Thursday and an even round on Friday, Woods added a one over 72 to sit two strokes back of the leader with 18 holes to play, tied up with Hunter Mahan to leave the two of them and Westwood as the only players under par left in the entire field heading into the final round on Sunday at Muirfield. Woods already put behind him the memories of 2002, the last time the major was at the course, as he put up the worst score of his career and now he can try to end the worst drought of his career as he tries to win his first major since taking the US Open back in 2008 at Torrey Pines, a course he also won on this year.
Woods has won four times on tour already this year, more than anyone else and at the Open Championship he has girlfriend Lindsey Vonn with him, something that clearly has helped him play better all year, as he appears to have turned the corner as the number one golfer in the world again after dealing with his sex scandal and the fallout. Woods played with Westwood on Saturday and two took turns holding the lead and eventually finished with the Brit ahead of the American at the end of the day by two strokes at three under par as he tries to win his first major championship.

Mahan had an excellent day on Saturday as well and finished tied for the best round of the day with Westwood after making some excellent shots. Woods had some trouble towards the end of the day, but positioned himself to be in full contention on Sunday, something that Rory McIlroy wishes he could say, as the Irish star is out after missing the cut to end up with the worst score in his career at a major championship, something Woods once did at the very same course. McIlroy started out with an awful first round at eight over to continue his year-long struggles and he finished with a 75 to end things with 12 over.
Woods has won 14 majors in his career, but it has been five long years since he has won a championship and now he is within striking distance, but to win he must do something he has never done before. Woods knows how to play well late in championships, but he has never won when coming from behind after 54 holes and that is exactly the position he is in now. A number of players in the top 10 have major championship wins and a solid group are within reach on the leaderboard, including Sergio Garcia, Jason Day, Dustin Johnson and Brandt Snedeker. Woods has won from his position before in his PGA career, but never at a major championship.
