The Dallas Mavericks made some major moves this offseason after signing Monta Ellis and now that they have the point guard situation mostly worked out with the signing of Israeli point guard Gal Mekel, the team is ready to trade former second-round pick Nick Calathes to the Memohis Grizzlies.
According to ESPN.com, the Mavericks are willing to trade Calathes to the Grizzlies for future draft considerations and have been talking to a number of teams, including Memphis, who appears to be the front runner. Calathes played very well in Europe last season and now the 24-year-old will likely get the chance to play in Memphis after he is traded. He met with Mavs coach Rick Carlisle in June and after the team offered a three-year deal for Mekel, they feel that Calathes can get moved.
Last season he averaged 12.9 points, 6.7 assists and 5.9 rebounds and earned MVP honors in the EuroCup while playing for Lokomotiv Kuban and that should be able to translate well to the NBA. Calathes has a deal with his team through 2014, but he has a clause that allows him to jump to the NBA after playing his college ball at Florida.
Dalembert was solid in those games, averaging 6.7 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.1 blocks in about 16 minutes per game. Put over a stretch of per-36 minute production, Dalembert was solid with 14.7 points, 13.0 rebounds and 2.5 blocks and while he likely won't put that up, it could be some solid production for the Mavericks as he looks to play for his fifth team in five seasons.
The Mavericks had hoped to sign Bynum, but after looking at his knee injury and other issues, they lost out on him to the Cavaliers. The center is expected to meet with the Mavericks on Thursday and the team likely will try to sign him or Oden to make up for losing out on Bynum and Howard. Oden could be a solid option if he is healthy, as he is still just 25 after being a former number one overall pick despite not playing in the league since 2009.
Dallas is also looking at Greg Oden this offseason after missing out on both Howard and Andrew Bynum and they may end up losing out on another name this offseason, as the Heat have also shown interest in the former number one pick. Oden hasn't played in years and after suiting up for only 82 games in his career, he appears finally healthy and ready to contribute. The Warriors are excited about adding Iguodala and after the team, surprised many by making a run in the playoffs, they are expecting to be even better next season.
