The Cleveland Indians are red hot having won seven straight games. A victory today against the Chicago White Sox will make it eight straight games and MLB.TV will allow you to watch this game free online at 12:05 p.m. ET.
It will be a battle of aces as Chris Sale of the White Sox faces Justin Masterson of the Indians. Sale has the better ERA, Masterson plays in the better team, therefore, he has the better record.
Masterson is the ace of his staff with an 8-4 record accompanied by a 3.42 ERA. He's coming off three consecutive solid starts where he's gone 2-0, allowing only three runs in 21.1 innings pitched. In his last two starts, Masterson's control has been impeccable, striking out 16 batters while walking only one. The Indians are clearly in a playoff hunt as they will look to work on a 2.5-game deficit as they are trailing the first place Detroit Tigers in the A.L. Central.
Though the White Sox parted ways with their former rotation leader, Sale is the ace of the staff. His 6-10 record isn't impressive, but he's lacked run support as he's posted a 2.69 ERA in 2013. Let's put it like this. In his last 10 games, Sale has a 2.84 ERA, allowing more than three runs just twice and he's 1-8. In his last three starts, Sale is 1-2, totaling 26 strikeouts while allowing only six earned runs in 23.2 innings pitched, good for a 2.33 ERA.
The White Sox are losers of six straight games and will look to put an end to this skid. Their season is probably over, but nothing makes an opponent feel better than beating a divisional rival.
