The Atlanta Braves are in the midst of an offensive explosion and currently sitting nicely on top of the National League East. They meet up with the Philadelphia Phillies on the road in hopes of continuing a nice win streak.
Atlanta is rotating on all cylinders at the moment. They are averaging 7.1 runs during their win streak, reaching double digit hits in the past six games. They have had five consecutive games where they scored at least five runs in one inning. On Friday, they piled on five runs in the fifth innings. Not only that, but in the last four games, hitters have knocked out nine home runs.
Brian McCann, Chris Johnson and Jason Heyward have all seen increased production. McCann knocked out three home runs on Friday. Johnson is 21 of 44 over an 11-game hit streak, along with eight multi-hit games. Heyward also hit two home runs on Friday, batting .400 in the last six games.
Brandon Beachy will take the mound for the team in his second start since returning from Tommy John surgery. He was hit hard in the first start, giving up seven runs in 3 2/3 innings. In 13 starts last season, Beachy posted a 2.00 ERA. The eight hits to Colorado was more than allowed in any start last year. He has also struggled against Philadelphia, losing in his last eight starts against the team.
The Phillies will send John Lannan to the mound. The pitcher is 3-4 with a 4.10 ERA on the season. He has pitched well against the Braves in recent seasons, going 6-1 with a 2.96 ERA since 2010.
