New York Yankees' third basemen Alex Rodriguez is expected to be handed a suspension by the MLB on Monday, and it is likely that it will last through the end of the 2014 season, according to ESPN.com.
Rodriguez declined to comment on if he or his representatives reached out to MLB or the New York Yankees, saying he will leave that to his legal team. On Saturday, Rodriguez walked all four times at the plate for the Yankees' Double-A affiliate, the Trenton Thunder. He said he would work out on Sunday and then fly to Chicago, where he expects to play Monday for the Yankees.
"I'm flying to Chicago," said Rodriguez, who has not played in 2013 after offseason hip surgery.
Rodriguez was presented with MLB's evidence in recent days, detailing what sources said were "volumes" of documents establishing a connection between Rodriguez and Biogenesis clinic founder Tony Bosch.
Sources said MLB was also given evidence supporting accusations that Rodriguez attempted to coerce at least one witness in MLB's investigation. That accusation is the basis of MLB's argument that Rodriguez may be punished for his conduct, in addition to multiple violations of the game's joint drug agreement.
As many as 20 players were originally linked to Biogenesis, a Miami clinic that allegedly provided performance-enhancing drugs, but some players could not be disciplined for lack of evidence.
About 12 other players will also be suspended Monday, according to sources.
