New York Yankees Rumors: Alex Rodriguez Expected To Play During Suspension Appeal, Derek Jeter Has Calf Sprain And Could Be Placed On The DL

Alex Rodriguez is sure to have "one of those" type of Monday's as he's expected to be handed a lengthy suspension from baseball, but then will head to Yankee Stadium to play for his first game for the New York Yankees this season.

It is expected that Rodriguez's suspension is to last through the 2014 season after being announced as part of the MLB's latest drug investigation.

Rodriguez was presented with MLB's evidence in recent days, detailing what sources said were "volumes" of documents establishing a connection between Rodriguez and Biogenesis clinic founder Tony Bosch.

Sources said MLB was also given evidence supporting accusations that Rodriguez attempted to coerce at least one witness in MLB's investigation. That accusation is the basis of MLB's argument that Rodriguez may be punished for his conduct, in addition to multiple violations of the game's joint drug agreement.

The Yankees star could get a shorter penalty if he agrees to give up the right to file a grievance and force the case before an arbitrator, the person added.

A suspension from Monday through 2014 would total 214 games, and an unsuccessful appeal could stretch serving the penalty into 2015.

As the Rodriguez suspension looms over the Yankees, the Bronx bombers were dealt another crippling blow after it was discovered that team captain Derek Jeter has a calf strain.

ESPN.com reported that an MRI performed Saturday night revealed a Grade 1 strain of the calf, the same injury that cost him three weeks last season as he was pursuing his 3,000th hit. The Yankees have not made a decision on whether Jeter, 39, is headed back to the disabled list, but from the look on Jeter's face it seemed as if such a trip was highly possible, if not likely.

"I'll see what they say," Jeter said. "It's up to them. Of course, I'd like to not do it, but I understand any situation that they have."
