Wayne Rooney hasn't even made the trip to Stockholm, Sweden for Manchester United's Tuesday friendly against AIK, but that hasn't stopped the England international from dominating the headlines ahead of kickoff.
Yet to feature in United's preseason, the 27-year-old-who is thought to be angling for an Old Trafford exit-was the subject of yet another bid from Chelsea over the weekend (Goal), and while his current club are insisting his absence is due to a shoulder problem, the situation is threatening to completely overshadow the Red Devils' start to the 2013-14 campaign.
Beyond Rooney, United have confirmed that captain Nemanja Vidic (sciatic nerve discomfort) has traveled to the Swedish capital. He joins a squad that includes the likes of Robin van Persie, Ryan Giggs, Nani and Michael Carrick (h/t ManUtd.com).
AIK, meanwhile, should be able to present their high-profile guests with a formidable challenge. They are currently in the middle of their domestic season and just two points off the top of the table.
Kennedy Igboananike's nine goals pace the side, and Martin Kayongo-Mutumba is the Allsvenskan's assist leader with seven helpers.
