Watch the Oakland Athletics vs. Cincinnati Reds as they will open a three-game series at the Great American Ball Park. First pitch is a little after 7:10 p.m. ET and young arms will take the hill for both the A's and Reds.
Dan Straily, who is 6-5 with a 4.41 ERA in 2013, will take the rubber for the Athletics. He will look to snap a three-game losing streak. He has not won a game in about a month, dating back to a July 9 start against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his last three starts, Straily has allowed nine earned runs in 16 innings pitched. He's been beaten twice by the Los Angeles Angels and recently lost against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Taking the mound for the Reds is Mat Latos, who continues to thrive in Cincinnati. He is 10-3 with a 3.37 ERA in 22 starts this season. The Athletics might be in trouble tonight as Latos is averaging more than a strikeout per inning. He's recorded 142 strikeouts in 138.2 innings pitched. Latos is 2-0 in his last three starts, allowing five earned runs in 18.2 innings pitched, while striking out 15.
Could we have a World Series preview tonight? The Athletics are in first place in the A.L. West, two games up on the Texas Rangers. The Reds are in third place in the N.L. Central, but they have the second Wild Card spot on lock with a 4.5 lead over the Arizona Cardinals.
The A's come into this game as the hotter team, though that's an overstatement. They are 5-5 in their last 10 games, but the Reds are really struggling, going 3-7 in their last 10 games.
