As Manchester United continues their pursuit for a new midfield signing, new boss David Moyes has shifted the attention from Cesc Fabregas and has now focused on the pursuit of Marouane Fellani.
It is believed Fellaini has made moving to Old Trafford his first choice and is hopeful that United will try to sign him.
It is unlikely that Everton will sell at a reduced price and are determined to hold firm, but United have the finances and pulling power to tempt Fellaini away from Goodison.
Barcelona midfielder Fabregas has long been considered the No.1 target of Moyes, but with Fabregas expected to publicly pledge his future to the Nou Camp on Thursday, the pursuit has now lost steam.
New Everton boss Roberto Martinez will be determined to keep Fellaini, but the Belgian powerhouse wants to play in the Champions League - the reason that release clause was inserted in his latest contract.
Arsenal had also been keen on Fellaini but the asking price dissuaded manager Arsene Wenger from making a formal offer.
Fellaini had a release clause in his contract allowing him to be bought for £23.5 million but it is thought this expired on July 31, complicating any attempt by the Red Devils to sign him from Everton.
