Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid in the first leg of the Champions League semifinal on Tuesday.

Mario Gomez scored a winning goal at the 90th minute to give Bayern a 2-1 victory, putting the team at an advantage in moving on to the final. Bayern also became the first team to defeat Real Madrid in the competition this season.

The game took place at Bayern's stadium Allianz Arena. The first goal came from Bayern when Frank Ribery scored in the 17th minute. Sergio Ramos was not able to clear a corner kick by Toni Kroos and Ribery did not miss the chance.

In the second half, Real Madrid scored an equalizer. On the 53rd minute, Ozil scored a goal, assisted by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid could have called it a successful away game if it had ended in a 1-1 draw that way, but the team could not hold it till the end.

Philip Lahm made an excellent pass to Gomez, who successfully scored at the last minute. Gomez has missed two headers earlier in the game, but made his mistakes up by scoring the match winning goal.

The second game will be held in Madrid next game and Real Madrid must win by two points or win 1-0 to secure their place in the final.

However, Real's are confident that they will make it.

"We don't need any crazy result in the return leg - we can win with a normal result and go through," said Real's manager Jose Mourinho at the press conference.

"I think my team can respond to this game, with our fans behind us."

Ozil, who was the only Real player to score at Tuesday's game, also expressed his confidence.

"The 2-1 scoreline is bitter for us to take but I am convinced that we will win at home," according to the club's website.

"We believe in our strength and I am convinced that we will progress to the final. I'm a little sad in defeat, but I have a good feeling. We will be in Munich," Ozil added.

Meanwhile, Real has another El Clasico scheduled this Saturday against Barcelona, who is only four points behind Real in the league.
