The PGA Championship is starting up on Thursday morning from Oak Hill in Rochester and Tiger Woods is being looked at as the favorite once again after playing some fantastic golf last weekend while winning the WGC Bridgestone Invitational tournament by seven strokes and after playing some practice rounds, Woods said he is ready to go for his first major in years.
Woods was fantastic off the tee and on the greens with his putter over the weekend and that could bode well for the number one golfer in the world as he tries to win his first major since 2008 at the US Open. Woods' son Charlie watched his father win live for the first time on Sunday and there is a good chance that week after winning that tournament he may be at the top of the leaderboard again. Woods performed well two out of three majors this year after finishing tied for sixth at the Open Championship and faltering at the US Open and now he will have the chance to win his 15th major.

Woods finished tied for fourth at the Masters back in the spring and he hasn't won a major championship since 2008 and now 17 majors have passed since, with Woods finishing in the top 10 nine times. Adam Scott won the Masters over Woods and he will be firmly in contention during the week and Woods will be grouped with Davis Love III and Keegan Bradley and they will tee off from the 10th hole at 8:35 a.m. The group will tee off later in the afternoon on Friday and Woods hopes that he plays better than he did after dropping off at the Open.
Woods and Phil Mickelson will be looked at as the main favorites after Mickelson won the US Open and the 95th PGA Championship should be a nice competition between two of the best golfers in the world, as they are ranked one and two now after the major victory. Mickelson is ranked number two and has never made it to number one and after winning the US Open and another tournament earlier in the year, he is with Woods as players who have won multiple times on tour this year, with Woods winning five times. Mickelson has 42 wins on the PGA tour and Woods now is closing on Sam Snead's record of 82 after winning his 79th tournament after taking the Bridgestone.
Woods has been playing fantastic on tour this season and it is more consistent than he has played over the past few years. Woods is ranked number one in the world and everyone is wondering when he will ever win a major again and this is his last chance in 2013 and at 37-years-old he needs to get back on the grind since the number 18 for Jack Nicklaus' record is very close, but also very far away.
