Vick and second-year passer Nick Foles have been vying for the top job in Kelly's high-tempo offense, though Vick's athleticism has given him a perceived advantage. However Kelly indicated Wednesday that both players will see equal time with the starters, and Foles is slated to start next week.
"They're both going to get reps," said Kelly. "So whoever takes the first rep let's not anoint them as anything. Someone's got to be the first guy. So we'll have a plan as a staff how many reps those guys will get, and we'll go from there.
"But I wouldn't say the guy that starts the game is going to be the starter overall in general as we get going on September 9. But how do we divvy up Mike and Nick's snaps and we'll try to make that as even as possible. That's kind of our thought process."
The Eagles and Patriots have been conducting joint practices in Philadelphia all week.
Friday's game at Lincoln Financial Field will also be embattled receiver Riley Cooper's first in front of the hometown fans since video surfaced last week of him directing a racial slur at an African-American security guard while attending a Kenny Chesney concert. After a four-day leave of absence, Cooper rejoined the Eagles on Tuesday and has practiced very effectively.
