The college football season is getting closer to starting and at some schools the race for starting quarterback and other positions are still brewing, including at Florida State, where it is a battle between Jameis Winston and redshirt sophomore Jacob Coker.
According to ESPN.com, Winston has looked good over the summer and could get the nod, especially after he played great in a scrimmage against the first team defense, completing 12 of 15 passes for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, including a 60-yard score over defensive back Lamarcus Joyner on the first play he had in the game. The team needs a new starter after EJ Manuel left for the NFL and was drafted by the Bills and so far Winston has looked the part.
Winston mentioned to reporters that they should let him know if he gets the 'Manziel disease,' but if he puts up numbers like Johnny Football did last season, no one will mind. Winston is also a baseball player and he could be the next superstar to come out of the Seminoles and this season could be a big one for him and Fisher. Florida State opens with a game against Pitt on Sept. 2 as the season begins and they come in after being 12-2 last season and finishing ranked 10th.
"If I get [Johnny] 'Manziel disease,' I want every one of y'all to get your mics and just start [hitting me] on the head," he told reporters, adding that Manziel was a good person, based on what he'd heard from other athletes."
