The music world is going crazy over Kendrick Lamar's "Control" verse that saw the rapper call out fellow stars of his generation. However, Alan Hahn, the New York Knicks analyst for MSG might have foreseen a huge move in 2014 involving the Knicks and LeBron James. Wait, was he just playing? Sounds like it.
James has been labeled as "The King." So it only makes sense to bring the two together. The King could rule New York and become basketball's King of New York. Lamar references being the King of NY in the track "Control", but in his verse he was comparing himself to Notorious B.I.G., who has also been considered a king in the city that saw him rise to stardom as a hip hop legend.
Listen to the verse yourself, fast forward to 3:38.
Maybe James is taking some notes on Lamar's lyrics. He already shouted the rapper out on Twitter, though James never gets as creative as Hahn does over the "King of New York" lyrics.
James seems to admire the track in general. He's not signaling out any direct phrase the way Hahn singles out the "King of NY" bit. Would New Yorkers want the world's best basketball player on their side of the ring? Probably. Would James be willing to make the move from Miami to a division rival? You'd have to ask his public relations team how they would announce that decision.
James is currently a two-time champion who is looking mighty smart despite being ridiculed heavily after joining forces with Dwyane Wade. James is playing for championships. There probably wouldn't be a better place to win a championship than New York in Madison Square Garden. After dropping from many people's radar as the NBA's villain, it will be interesting to see if James attracts more attention to himself this offseason by signing elsewhere.
In the meantime, Lamar, keep killing the game. LeBron, keep enjoying the music like the fan that you are.
