Kendrick Lamar is one of the most talented hip-hop artists in the game and he caused a bit of a stir this week after his verse on Big Sean's track "Control" went live and after name-dropping a number of rappers as well as Los Angeles Lakers legend Phil Jackson, the head coach sent a message back in return.
According to Pro Basketball Talk, Jackson was mentioned in the track, which many reviews praised, with Lamar referring to the head coach while describing the fact that he himself could not be coached, even by the Lakers legend. Lamar went at a number of fellow rappers, including Jermaine Cole, Big KRIT, Wale, Pusha T, Meek Millz, A$AP Rocky, Drake, Tyler, Mac Miller, Big Sean and Jay Electronica, saying that he had love for them, but that he was also going at them as a competitor. The track was a hit online and popped up around the Internet and clearly it got back to Jackson.
Jackson has been in the news a bit lately after his fiance Jeanie mentioned that she thought he would possibly coach again one day in the future. She also mentioned that her father Dr. Jerry Buss might have been able to have gotten Dwight Howard to stay in Los Angeles. The Lakers are heading into a crucial season after losing Howard and the biggest issue for the team will be whether Kobe Bryant is healthy or not coming back from an Achilles injury.
The line in the track from Kendrick was: : "If Phil Jackson came back, still no coachin' me. I'm uncoachable, I'm unsociable ..." and in response to that Jackson wrote on
"@kendricklamar it's okay to be cocky and sure, but we all need somebody to lean on. Let's just call it mentoring."
