The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies hook up in the rubber match of their three-game series. First pitch is a little bit at 7:10 p.m. ET and you can watch the game online as MLB.TV will provide a live stream.
The Braves will look to win their 11th game of the month as they started August on a six-game winning streak and went on to win their first eight games before losing to the Miami Marlins on Saturday. A Phillie win the Braves will lose their first series since July 21, when the Chicago White Sox took two out of three at U.S. Cellular Field. Since then, the Braves have won five series and split a four-game set against the New York Mets.
Responsible for keeping the streak going will be Brandon Beachy, the latest Brave pitcher to come off the disabled list. Beachy had a terrific start against the Marlins. The Braves won 5-0 behind Beachy, who pitched eight innings of scoreless baseball, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out three. It was his first win of the season. After three starts, Beachy is 1-0 with a 5.00 ERA in 2013. He faced the Phillies in his second start making his return from the disabled list. He went 6.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on five hits and two walks, while striking out four.
The Phillies well send John Lannan, a lefty, to the mound. He's 3-5 with a 4.81 ERA in 13 starts this season. He hasn't been the best starter for the Phillies, proven after Lannan surrendered eight earned runs in five innings pitched. Lannan was on the mound the same day Beachy got the start against the Phillies. He didn't make it out of the fifth inning, going 4 1/3 after allowing only two earned runs on four hits. Though the Braves are known for their high strikeout totals this season, Lanna could not record a strikeout in this start.
