Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller is facing a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy and while many thought the suspension would be for four games, ESPN is reporting that the ban is actually for six games to start the season if upheld.
According to ESPN.com, Miller is appealing the suspension and according to Adam Schefter, the ban is actually for six games and not the usual four, although that could change. The report says that Miller and his reps are negotiating with the league about reducing the ban to four games and now he is likely not going to go through with the original appeal. An announcement is expected this week says the report and last week Miller met with the NFLPA to work on the suspension and getting it down to four games.
According to sources, the ban is for six games and unless he gets it reduced, he will miss the opening game against the Baltimore Ravens at home. Miller will also be set to miss the New York Giants on the road as well as the Oakland Raiders on Monday Night Football on Sept. 23. He would also be missing the Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars games. If he is out six games, he will be eligible to return for the seventh game against the Colts and if it's four it will be for the Cowboys game.
Miller is one of the top young linebackers in the game and he has made 30 sacks over the past two seasons, including putting up 18.5 last season as one of the leaders in the league. Miller is essential for the defense and the Broncos have been preparing for life without him early in the season.
