Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is being held in jail accused of first degree murder in the death of Odin Lloyd and and now a gun that was used in another murder that Hernandez has been allegedly linked to has been found.
According to CBS 3 in Springfield, Massachusetts, the gun that was used in a double murder that might be linked to the death of Lloyd was located by authorities. The report says that the weapon was located after a car accident two months ago in June that involved Jailene Diaz-Ramos who is from Hernandez's hometown in Bristol. Reports have come out over the summer that Hernandez could be tied to a double murder from last July and authorities located a silver SUV that was at the scene at his uncle's home.
Police were able to link the .38 caliber Smith & Wesson revolver to the murders, which happened after an alleged altercation at a nightclub and ended in a drive by shooting near the scene. According to the CBS report, the 19-year-old Ramos was charged with illegal possession of a gun and ammunition, and released on a $1,000 bond and this came after the crashed on I-91. The police are looking into any link that Hernandez has to the gun or the murders and the report writes that Ramos said the gun belonged to someone named 'Chicago" that was a football player.
Hernandez is charged with first degree murder in the death of Lloyd, whose body was found less than a mile from his home in North Attleboro. Hernandez was released by the Patriots soon after he was arrested and he has pleaded not guilty to the charges in the case. On Thursday he will appear in court for a probable cause hearing that was delayed from July and he has expressed that he is innocent in letters that he wrote that were released online.
Hernandez is tied to the murder through shell casings, text messages and video surveillance and he initially was agitated with police when he was first asked about the murder. Hernandez's girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins was looked into in regards to the case as well, as authorities have yet to find the murder weapon. The police searched a storage unit rented under her name while looking for the gun and they also searched a pond in Bristol. Jenkins appeared in court the last time Hernandez did and it is not known if she will be in court on Thursday for the probable cause hearing.
