Aaron Hernandez is set to be back in court on Thursday for a probable cause hearing in the case of the murder of semi-professional tennis player Odin Lloyd and he returns to the public eye after news came about that a gun was found in another murder that the former Patriots tight end might be connected to.
Hernandez is set to appear in court on August 22 after the judge in the case delayed the probable cause hearing in July to give the prosecution more time to gather and review evidence. According to ESPN.com, at the time, the lawyers for the state had recently been given additional evidence to look at, including boxes of ammunition as well as other items. Despite objections from the defense, the delay was granted and now Hernandez will be in court again on Thursday.
In other previous court appearances Hernandez's fiancé Shayanna Jenkins was in court, but it is unclear if she will be in court on Thursday, as she was the focus of a search in the case as well. Jenkins was looked at for possibly hiding or disposing of the murder weapon, as police said that they put together text messages, video surveillance and an interview with Jenkins's sister to use as a reason to check a storage unit in Shayanna's name. Hernandez has been in jail for weeks now since being arrested for the murder of Lloyd and after searching the unit, police have still yet to find the murder weapon, which they believe was a .45 caliber gun.
Hernandez is dealing with other issues as well, as his cousin Tanya Singleton was taken into custody at one point after refusing to speak with the grand just looking into the case. Search warrants were previously unsealed in the case and some details showed Hernandez being agitated with police when they first started asking him questions about the case. After the police first arrived at his home, which is near where the body was found, he locked the door in their face, but after speaking with Jenkins he decided to go speak with police. Jenkins herself was being spoken to by police, but soon after she started, Hernandez called and said that she should stop.
The gun that was recently found is tied to a double murder from last summer that happened near a nightclub. The gun in that murder was a .38 and was found after a traffic accident in June and the woman who had the gun said it was her boyfriend's and that he has seen a "football" player the last time he used a car. Making matters worse for Hernandez, police found an SUV they believed was the one in the drive-by shooting last July and it was located and seized from his uncle's home in Bristol, Connecticut, his hometown.
