NY Jets: Braylon Edwards Likely Released After Mohamed Massaquoi Signs? Santonio Holmes Unsure of Return as Rex Ryan Concerned with Offense

The New York Jets have an interesting group of wide receivers. Filled largely of unknown talent, the Jets made very few moves to improve the group over the offseason. To top it off, Santonio Holmes has no idea when he will be back on the field and Braylon Edwards has looked rough so far in camp. Stephen Hill and Jeremy Kerley might be the only sure-fire bets. As a result, the Jets have reached a deal with Muhamed Massaquoi.

The former second-round draft pick by the Cleveland Browns in 2009, Massaquoi was just released by the Jacksonville Jaguars two days ago. In four years with the Browns, Massaquoi put up 1,745 yards and seven touchdowns. While Massaquoi has not exactly been impressive during his NFL career, he has not been terrible. A receiver capable of big plays, Massaquoi has yet to be part of a team with a proven quarterback. Not that the Jets have one, but he could turn out to be something great.

The signing comes after Holmes admitted he has no timetable for his return to the team. Holmes is attempting to return from a Lisfranc injury. He has taken part in drills and team warm-ups but is still casting doubt on when he can officially be deemed 100 percent healthy.

"I don't know how to answer that question as far as missing the whole season. I mean have 16 weeks of football. At any point I could be ready to play. If not, I would be willing to accept it," Holmes said, via the New York Daily News.

While he was present at the team's preseason game, Holmes said looks can be deceiving. He still wakes up every morning in pain. It is something he will have to learn how to tolerate and overcome.

With the Massaquoi signing, there is a chance that someone could get released. Edwards is the likely target considering his training camp has not gone that well. The receiver has spent most of the time with the second and third string units. Due to his veteran status, he is on a pitch count and has not practiced in four days because of it. Rookies are certainly the likely targets when it comes to cuts, but Edwards could see his time with the Jets over.
