The Washington Nationals hit the road for a matchup against National League rival, the Chicago Cubs. The Nationals are placing their faith in star pitcher Stephen Strasburg to fix his road woes and finally win a game away from Nationals Park.
Strasburg has not won a road start in over three months. He is 1-5 with a 5.11 ERA in his last 11 road starts this season. The right hander was ejected from his last start against the Atlanta Braves after hh threw consecutive pitches behind Adrelton Simmons' back. He was struggling to find the strike zone against the Braves and had just given up two runs and two walks all while hitting another batter. Manager Davey Johnson was also ejected after arguing that the pitches were not intentional.
The Nationals batters are certainly trying to help out Strasburg. Ryan Zimmerman is 7 for 16 with three doubles and three RBI against the Cubs this season. Jayson Werth is on a strong streak, hitting .452 in his last 18 games. Strasburg has only given up one run with 12 strikeouts to the Cubs in his last two starts against the team.
The Cubs will send Travis Wood to the mound. The team is not playing well at home this year. They have dropped their last 15 of 18 games at Wrigley, while Wood is 0-3 with a 5.64 ERA in his last four home starts. Wood's slide since making the All-Star game has not been pretty. In his last six games, he is 1-4 with a 4.29 ERA. Wood has not played the Nationals this season.
