The Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals hook up for the second game of their series at Busch Stadium Friday night at 8:15 p.m. ET. Want to watch the game online? Check out the live stream available as the Braves look to bounce back from a lost and the Cardinals look to secure at least a series split. Here are the pitching matchups and yesterday's results.
The Braves hope Kris Medlen is trying to regain his winning ways. After winning four straight games, Medlen lost his first decision since late July. He went only three innings in his last start against the Washington Nationals, but he's here Friday and ready to go. In his last start against the Cardinals, Medlen went six innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits and a walk. He struck out four Cardinals in that game.
Opposing Medlen and taking the mound of the red birds is Adam Wainwright. He's been one of baseball's bright spots in 2013, going 14-7 with a 2.66 ERA in 26 games. Wainwright has pitched four complete games in 2013, including two shutouts. However, the Braves had success against the soon-to-be 32-year-old righty. The Braves got three earned runs off Wainwright in seven innings pitched.
The Cardinals are trying to get payback. The Braves swept them in Atlanta and they got off to a great start on Thursday, beating the Bravos 6-2. Matt Carpenter, Carlos Beltran and Matt Holliday all had two hits in the game, totalin three RBI's. Aside from a two-run bomb surrendered to Justin Upton, righty, Joe Kelly shut down the Braves. He went six innings, allowed seven hits, walked two and struck out three, improving his record to 5-3.
The Braves will continue missing Jason Heyward, who was taking charge of the leadoff duties for the Braves. Jordan Schafer went 0-5 as Braves' manager Fredi Gonzalez gave the speedy outfielder a chance to leadoff. The Braves will now need everybody else to step it up. Aside from Freddie Freeman and Chris Johnson, everybody in the Braves' lineup is hitting under .300. They need guys like Evan Gattis and Andrelton Simmons to become an active part of their lineup.
The Cardinals are trying to take the N.L. Central back after losing their lead in the beginning of August. They are trailing the Pittsburgh Pirates by just a game and they are regaining their health little by little.
