Cardiff pulled off, what will surely be seen as one of the upsets of the season even when this year's English Premier League campaign draws to an end after shocking Manchester City 3-2 in front of a raucous home crowd.
In the day's other game, Tottenham scored their second straight 1-0 win, with Roberto Soldado again scoring the all-important goal from the penalty spot.
However, Sunday was all about Cardiff and their splendid home performance against the title hopefuls Manchester City.
The Welsh side took the game to City in the opening few minutes and gave as much, if not more, as they got throughout the entire 90.
However, it was City who opened the scoring, seven minutes into the second half, courtesy a blinding strike from in-form Edin Dzeko.
Sergio Aguero laid the ball off to Dzeko, who fired home a piledriver from 25 yards past goalkeeper David Marshall, with the ball taking the slightest of deflections.
If City were expected to press home their advantage, they were in for a surprise as Cardiff equalized on the hour mark.
The excellent Kim Bo-Kyung ran down the right past the static City defenders, before finding Fraizer Campbell inside the six-yard box. The Cardiff striker saw his shot saved by Joe Hart, but Aron Gunnarsson was on hand to slot home the rebound.
Cardiff then took an improbable, but thoroughly deserved, lead in the 79th minute, with Campbell capitalizing on a mistake from the flapping Joe Hart to head home from a corner.
Another corner produced Cardiff's third and Campbell's second, with the former Manchester United striker rising high to power another header past Hart.
City did not give up with substitute Alvaro Negredo placing a brilliant header into the top corner off a cross from David Silva in the second minute of stoppage time, but Cardiff held on for the rest of the four minutes, as the brilliant fans were able to celebrate a famous win.
At White Hart Lane, Soldado grabbed the winner from the penalty spot for the second successive week to give Spurs an unconvincing 1-0 win over Swansea.
Andros Townsend won the penalty for Tottenham, under controversial circumstances, going down inside the box under little or no contact from Jonjo Shelvey.
Soldado stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past Michel Vorm just before the hour mark to give Spurs their second win in as many Premier League games.
